Ours began with a love of books
It started with a love of books. It grew into something more.
The idea for The Black Thorn & Ember started with three people who loved books and kept coming back to the same thought:
What if we created something of our own?
Something centered around the stories we love, but just as much around the people who love them.
We wanted to create more than a place to buy a book. We wanted to create a space where readers could discover something unexpected, talk about the stories they can’t stop thinking about, meet the people behind the books, and feel like they belong.
That vision became The Black Thorn & Ember.
We’re building it intentionally, starting with our online shop, creating curated reading experiences, partnering with independent authors, collaborating with local businesses, and growing a community as we work toward a permanent bookstore of our own.
At its heart, The Black Thorn & Ember is built by readers, for readers.
And we’re just getting started.

The Black Thorn & Ember was built by three friends who share a deep love of books, storytelling, and the communities that grow around them.
We didn’t set out to simply open a bookstore. We wanted to create the kind of place we would want to spend time in, a place where discovering a new book feels exciting, recommendations come from real conversations, and readers can find their people.
Each of us brings our own tastes, experiences, and favorite kinds of stories to The Black Thorn & Ember. We don’t all read the same books, and that’s part of what makes this so much fun. Our recommendations and the experiences we create are shaped by three different readers, three different perspectives, and a shared love of discovering a great story.
